NEH Summer Institute for Teachers Application Instructions
In order to apply for "Voices Across Time: Teaching American History Through Music" you should acquaint yourself with the following:
1. NEH's Eligibility Criteria.
2. NEH’s Application Information and Instructions which explains NEH’s regulations about eligibility
and
3. Letter to Potential Applicants,
which goes into detail about what will happen during the Institute as
well as explaining the essay portion of your application.
To begin your application, you need to fill out the electronic NEH coversheet.
Please fill it out online as directed by the prompts. The application cover sheet must be completed in one sitting, so be sure
not to begin if you do not believe you can finish the form at this
time. If you are inactive for over two hours, your work will no longer
be available for editing. NEH estimates that it will take you 15 minutes
to complete the cover sheet. When you are finished, be sure to click the “submit” button. Don't forget to print it out once you have completed filling it out and adding it to your application package.
Note that filling out a cover sheet is not the same as applying, so
there is no penalty for changing your mind and filling out a cover sheet
for several projects. A full application consists of the items listed
above, as sent to the project director.
A complete application consists of 1 copy of the following items:
- A print out of the completed application cover sheet,
- a résumé or brief biography, that details your educational qualifications and professional experience, and
- an application essay as outlined below.
The Application Essay
The application essay should be no more than 1,000 words. It should address your reasons for applying; yours interest, both academic and personal, in the subject to be studied; qualifications and experiences that equip you to do the work of the seminar or institute and to make a contribution to a learning community; a statement of what you want to accomplish by participating; and the relation of the project to your professional responsibilities.
